You’ll soon need a reservation to watch the sunrise

Sunrise at Haleakala National Park draws hundreds of visitors daily – more than can be safely accommodated.

Supply and demand – in this case, too many vehicles for too few parking spots – has necessitated a reservation system to watch the sunrise at Haleakala National Park.

Early-morning crowds to Haleakala regularly exceed 1,000, while parking spaces number just 150, causing visitor and employee safety concerns. As a result, a paid reservation system will be implemented in February 2017. The one-day reservation will cost $1.50 and can be booked up to 60 days before a visit. Please consult your friendly Hono Koa concierge for assistance.

All sunrise viewings before Feb. 1, 2017, will be open on the usual first-come, first-served basis.
